RnR Sushi & Bowls Reviews
This place was cute. I parked down the street at a large lot and walked up just looking for something good to eat. The yelp app made it seem like I would need to wait but the place was empty as I was in the between lunch and dinner time. The staff was super nice and I sat in the back patio as I requested. The lunch special was perfect and I planned to walk Piedmont Ave in search of my dessert. The meal of course came with the usual wasabi and ginger mix. A nice cold carafe of water as well. The bathroom was clean and the place seemed like a popular spot - I just happened to be lucky to be there during a not to busy mid week time. Enjoy!
As a Bay Area native, I pride myself on knowing and having eaten through all of the best places to eat for sushi throughout. RnR Sushi & Bowls take the spot for the best sushi roll restaurant to go to in Oakland and the many reviews here echo that sentiment. No matter what roll you're getting they're huge and worth the price. I finally had their chicken teriyaki bowl the other day and it's worth every penny. Don't forget to make it combo for $5 more. They say it's just 6 pieces for the California roll but it ended up being 8. $6 if you're feeling sashimi instead. I usually get the 49er roll and the dragon roll, and that's usually two meals in itself. The first time I ordered 3 rolls and that was a mistake just because of the portion sizes. Their backyard area is nice to sit in when the weather is. I make my way over from SF to eat here and it's worth the drive every time. Service is always fast, friendly and prompt. One block away from Fentons so ice cream is a must every time as well.
Sushi- 5 stars Chicken karaage - 2 stars :(( Service - 4 stars Definitely casual night out type of spot... I can't decide if I felt cramped or if it fit the vibe to have a tiny table squished along the wall... The rolls we got were great-- the Alameda roll and this other tempura + salmon roll. It was supposed to be spicy but wasn't spicy at all. But they're generous with the portions and don't put a lot of rice which is why I give 5 stars. I LOVE chicken karaage and am always on the lookout for good ones. RnR's "chicken karaage" is more like popcorn chicken?? And the sauce was literally just katsu sauce. Honestly a big disappointment, but at least they give you a lot of chicken. Service was okay- since we came towards closing I think the waitress (only one for the whole place) was really busy so I understand. I'm coming back for the rolls :) but not the chicken :(
Really solid sushi and huge portions! Discovered it on DoorDash but it's even better in person (I feel like the portions are bigger when you dine-in.) They have a nice backyard patio with heat lamps. I usually order the Alameda Roll and the ichiban roll. Both are really tasty and fresh. I recently tried the chicken katsu curry and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and shocked at how large the portion was! The gravy was super flavorful and was served with what looked like two huge pieces of chicken katsu over a giant mound of rice. We shared it between 2 people and still had to take some home. I'll definitely order this again.
My wife and I visited RnR Sushi & Bowls yesterday afternoon for lunch after discovering that both Geta and Ebiko were closed. While we were a bit bummed -- since those are two of our favorite sushi spots, RnR Sushi & Bowls had solid reviews on Yelp so we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 12:40 p.m., and with just one other table occupied, we were seated immediately. Between the two of us, we ordered the Dragon, Alameda, and California rolls. The service was very prompt -- our food arrived in about 10 minutes after we placed our order. As other reviews have mentioned, the portions here are *huge*. The rolls are larger than your typical sushi rolls, and while we were definitely hungry, we still ended up packing a few pieces of sushi to-go. The variety of fish slices topping the Alameda roll tasted fresh and had good texture. The eel on the Dragon roll was perfectly seared and had a generous amount of unagi sauce. What really caught me off guard though, was how good the California roll was. Most places miss the mark with their California rolls -- the imitation crab is often watery, freezer-burned, or bland. Not here. The crab was flavorful, and the avocado was shockingly creamy -- especially impressive for mid-December. I'd love to know where they're sourcing their avocados from. Overall, I'd definitely come back to satisfy a sushi craving. At around $60 after tax and tip for the two of us, the price is pretty standard for sushi in the Bay Area, and the quality and portion sizes make it worth it.
